Joanna and Simon got married on 21 September at Tenuta di Mensanello, an old stone estate among vineyards and cypress trees near Colle di Val d'Elsa, in the Sienese countryside. They saw each other for the first time in the courtyard, then wandered together along the white roads between the vines.
The ceremony took place outdoors under the trees, with the valley opening up behind them. They each read their vows, and a little flower girl in white stole more than one moment of the day.
Dinner was served in a glass-walled room looking out over the hills. As the sky turned pink, Joanna stepped out onto the terrace among the cypresses, and the night ended with the cake, cut outside under the stars.
